Ufa is the largest and capital city of the remote Russian region of Bashkortostan. The region lies in the north-west of Bashkortostan at the junction of the Ufa and Belaya rivers. Ufa is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world with its picturesque landscape, modern skyscrapers and numerous restored buildings. Tourists visiting Ufa often stay in one of its many outlying regions.
The Ufa region was under the administration of the Grandfather and Grandmother of Ufa, Grigory Rasputin. During the 1930s, Ufa became one of the fastest developing cities in the Russian Federation, becoming a booming metropolis that was highly industrialized. Besides housing the biggest city of Ufa, it also had a series of townships and villages along the Riverside. Many of these townships have now been completely rebuilt and modernized, while others have remained relatively untouched.
The Grandfather and Grandmother of Ufa was a former president of the Ufa Republic. There are several landmarks and museums in the region, including the Old Town Hall of Ufa, which features a Gothic style church and several monuments. The Vasilijeresky Museum in Ufa displays collections of weapons, paintings and sculptures, including one of a seven-year old girl by the name of Vasilijereska, who incidentally was the wife of a famous Tsar. Other notable items in the museum include a statue of Jesus Christ, which stands proudly on the main square in front of the Old Town Hall. Another large statue of a man with a beard and mustache, called the Old Master, also stands on the Vasilijeresky River.
Although the city center is quite small, there is a wide range of accommodations to choose from. You can stay at any of the hotels or guesthouses across Ufa ranging from five star rated hotels to guesthouses and motels. The Vasilijeresky Hotel, which is a relatively new building, is one of the most popular hotels in Ufa. It has a great location on the banks of the river and is close to the popular Russian beaches of Tsentar, Kissura and Seminyak. The Vasilijeresky offers a variety of accommodation options such as guesthouses and hotels, motels, apartment accommodations, and private villas.
Close to the Old Town and close to the airport, the village of Kashtarno is a good place to start your trip to Ufa. It is home to a magnificent house museum, the Pushkins House, which was destroyed during the Second World War. The museum is run by an enterprising family and is worth a visit. Kashtarno is also a good place to go shopping as it has a large variety of outlets. Also, the village has a large collection of art works, ranging from paintings to sculptures and is famous for its metal art.
Another great idea for a Russia vacation is a journey to St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg is known as Russia’s number one destination, especially for those interested in historic architecture. A great St. Petersburg vacation can be made up of a trip to the Pushkin Cathedral or a walk through the Golden Gate Bridge. A full day trip to the Oceanographic Institute is recommended and a full day trip to the Lomonosowka Museum of Natural History is highly recommended.
